Poem: Butter

Her Voice, Butter

fat and rich,

coat the entrance to my ears

a grand laugh

as impressive as icing

piped onto the sides of

a rococo wedding cake.

sweet cream

melts inside my psyche

comforts of home

vanilla smell wafting.

scrape the butter off the top

of the milk you have been churning in my

hold onto that precious cream

and help me

become something

and beautiful.

I wrote this poem after thinking about how much I admire a dear friend of mine.  As I have gone through life I have found more and more fulfillment from my relationships with other women of all ages. Rauncie was one of the first inspirational strong people I met in college.

Here is a video of me reading it at Open Stage in Plano, Texas a few years ago.
